The journey begins with French arias evoking winged creatures—elusive butterflies, migratory birds—that address fidelity, constancy, and the wounded heart. Then come German, Italian, and English arias that plunge into darkness: monsters, snakes, and spiders emerge from the shadows, revealing fear, rage, deception, and loss.
